Meripoint Books

From our Corner in Williamsburg

November 2026

Dear friends,

There’s a great deal happening at Meripoint this autumn. Our Writing Corner is welcoming writers for new gatherings, we’ve enhanced our online home, and we’re even contemplating a book club for the new year.

You’ll also find us on local radio in November. And because every good letter deserves a little diversion, we’ve included a literary riddle and a rather unsettling writing prompt.

Read on—and do tell us what you think about a book club at Meripoint.

Explore where your words may take you. Join Loralee Clark and a small group of writers for three imaginative prompts, 45 minutes of writing, and an optional opportunity to share your work.

The workshop meets on the second Thursday of each month, November through March, at Meripoint Books & Writing Corner.

$45 for all five sessions or $20 for one session.

We’re delighted to have two opportunities to talk with local listeners about Meripoint.

93.5 The Burg — Tune in for our live interview Friday, November 6, at 10:30 a.m.

92.3 FM The Tide — Another interview is coming soon; we’ll share the broadcast details when they’re confirmed.

We’ve been rearranging our online bookshelves. At meripointbooks.com, you can discover books and their authors, browse our blog, and catch up on news from the bookshop. The Writing Corner at meripoint.com has information about workshops, quiet writing hours, and writer consultations.

Whether you enjoy reading, are working on a manuscript, or simply love a literary puzzle, we hope you’ll stop by for a look.

With thanks to fellow writer Ronan O. Kelly, author of Flashing O’Henry, for creating the idea behind the Meri Reader’s Riddle, including its name and three-clue format.

  • What do we call a person who brings something new into existence?
  • What flashes across the sky during a storm?
  • What might lurk beneath a young child’s bed?

Think you’ve solved it? The answer is waiting on the bookshelves.

Halloween may be behind us, but a mysterious old mirror can still give us a shiver. Our writing prompt begins with a child, a reflection, and something that may—or may not—be there. Where would you take the story?

There’s something special about finishing a good book and then discussing it with others. We’re thinking of gathering fellow readers at Meripoint on the first Thursday evening of each month, beginning in January.

We have two possibilities in mind:

Discover and discuss memorable works of literature. Our first selection could be G. K. Chesterton’s The Innocence of Father Brown.

Explore books by local authors. Our first selection could be Sally Stiles’s Across the Covered Bridge.

The club would meet at Meripoint Books & Writing Corner, starting Thursday, January 7, 2027. Participation would be free; we’ll proceed if at least four readers are interested.

Which would you choose? We’d love to hear from you. Taking the short survey simply lets us know your interest; it does not commit you to attend.

Thank you for being part of the Meripoint community. We hope to see you among the books, at a writing session, or perhaps at a book club in the new year.

Warmly,

ML
